Resources

Urban Garden Center: A cooperative extension service provided by University of Hawaii's CTAHR program, whose mission is to "Continuously and consistantly provide innovative and diverse horticultural information to the gardening public."

City of Honolulu Community Gardening Program: If you live in a place where you have no access to outdoors or there is not enough light penetrating your windows to grow indoors, another option is to apply for a community garden plot. For eager apartment dwellers you may look into the possibility of creating a rooftop garden, either approved through management or guerilla style.

Aquaponics Anonymous: Aquaponics is a new and exciting form of sustainable growing of food and fish in an organic symbiotic relationship. For home set up, consultation, and system maintenance, Petiola works with Aquaponics buff, Roscoe Fowler.

Wally's Garden Center: Small, locally-owned garden businesses are hard to find in Honolulu so if you are looking for somewhere besides City Mill or Home Depot give Wally's a try. The selection is limited but the mom and pop feel of Wally's is encouraging.

Johnny Select Seeds: Local seeds are of course always preferred and available through University of Hawaii or the Urban Garden Center, but for a wide selection of fancy seed varieties from a company with a commitment to provide non-GMO seeds, Johnny's seeds are some of the best.
